Westlaw Asia Tip - Case Status Icons

Last Published: July 20, 2023

This tip explains what the different status icons represent for case law.

  1. When browsing case law, you may see status icons appearing next to the party names of a case. These icons indicate the current status of the case and signal whether a case has been judicially considered or not.
  1. A green status icon, indicates the case has received positive or neutral judicial treatment in subsequent cases, and is still good law.
  1. A red status icon, indicates that at least one point of law in the case has been overruled or reversed, so it is no longer good law.
  1. A yellow status icon, indicates the case has received mixed or mildly negative judicial treatment in subsequent cases but it has not been overruled/overturned. So when citing this case, you have to be cautious.
