Mr Justice Bokhary, a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal and author of various popular legal publications, recently delivered a lecture to students from the School of Journalism at the University of Hong Kong. The lecture focused on the constitutional dimensions and court decisions on media law, emphasising the importance of media freedom to democracy and liberty. The audience showed great interest in the topic and engaged in enthusiastic discussions with the Judge.

Following the lecture, the attendees had the opportunity to meet and interact with Mr Justice Bokhary at a book signing session. The Judge’s various publications with Sweet & Maxwell (Thomson Reuters) were available at the event; they included the Judge’s memoir titled Recollections (2013), his coverage on the topic of human rights Human Rights: Source, Content and Enforcement (2015), and his renowned cartoon law book series comprising The Law is a Crocodile (2013), Crocodile-at-Law (2014), Croc of Final Appeal (2017), Habeas Crocodylus (2019), and The Constitutional Crocodile (2021, written with the Judge’s grandson Zane Heady). The next instalment of the popular series, Croc and Roll Law, was written with the Judge’s grandsons Zane Heady and Asher Heady, and will be released soon. Mr Justice Bokhary is also the General Editor of the Authorised Hong Kong Law Reports & Digest, and the Authorised Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal Reports.

Many queued up to have their copies signed or pose for a picture with the Judge. Attendees expressed their admiration for Mr Justice Bokhary’s work as a judge and an author.

It was a memorable evening for those interested in media law, as well as a precious opportunity to meet one of Hong Kong’s most respected legal figures. Mr Justice Bokhary’s publications continue to serve as valuable resources for those interested in the law and justice system in Hong Kong.
